Artists and Dreamers

I drove out to Hood River last week to begin work on the 2017 calendar printing, and I wasn't planning on doing any photography because I was tired.  But on the way back, the river turned calm and reflective, and it did this right in front of the vista point turnout, so of course I pulled over.  Usually this turnout is pretty empty, just a semi or two with the driver napping in the back.  But on this day the lot was full, and everyone out with their cameras and iphones.  I started to feel a kindred spirit with these fellow travelers who had also chosen to pause their journey and enjoy the scene with me; and started to think about all the vehicles whizzing by behind me, their occupants either in too much of a rush or too distracted to notice what we were taking in. Glad I had the opportunity to pause and enjoy.

Lovely capture! I'm glad you stopped... I agree, so many miss these opportunities by just not looking at their surroundings when they zoom by. They miss so much beauty.
Coldwater Lake is about a mile or so past the turn off, on the road to Johnston Ridge. Coldwater Science Center is just before the turn-off and is open weekends until 4pm.
After May 14th it'll be open longer hours, I think til 6. Johnston Ridge is still closed for winter. It'll reopen May 14th.
I love Castle Lake scenic view and Elk Rock, both just prior to the above. Great views! (All have good signage)
We were up there again today, since the weather was perfect. (We live rather close by)
Happy travels!

That's a fine view, glad that you and so many others got to enjoy it. Sometimes good pictures come out of tiredness I've found, as occasionally it's good enough to just click the button without too much analysis.

How lovely to be open to the serendipitous moments in life...to stop and notice...ah, those blues...I've been marvelling at how the light creates changes in nature and color, sometimes from moment to moment...
