Flamingo Abstract

This makes three bird photos in a row for me.  It was bathing time for the flamingos at the San Francisco Zoo.  They put their heads in the water upside-down and scooped water in the underside of their beaks like a ladle.  As the water settled down, some cool reflections were happening.  I liked this one because the neck and head look pretty normal, but the rest is really abstract.  And there is a hole in the middle of the flamingo!  Like a doughnut :)

The Dance of the Cranes

East African Crowned Cranes at the San Francisco Zoo last Friday.  There was a cool dance going on here.  They were bobbin' and weavin'.  I couldn't tell if they were going to fight or mate, but when it ended they just walked off like nothing had happened.

August 20

We went to the zoo in San Francisco today.  Very cool place!  It was sort of surprising to be back in overcast weather though; we had low cloud cover our whole time there.  I actually got cold!  Anyway, this bird is called an East African Crowned Crane.  It's pretty unusual looking, but there's a lot of nice texture and color so the photo was nice.  It doesn't stand still though so it was really hit or miss with the camera.  Mostly miss.  I'd focus on the eye and the crane would be out of the shot before I could take the photo.  Something about the face colors and crown reminds me of British royalty.
