Rest Stop

A rest stop doesn't get much prettier than this vista view looking east on the Columbia off Highway 14 in Washington.  I actually had a hard time photographing around the fence (except for this photo of course!) and was just thinking about how fences and guardrails in scenic locations are less common in the western states.  They have more of a enjoy-at-your-own-risk mentality it seems, and they don't like to obstruct the view.  It's quite a drop off after the fence line, so a fence is a very good thing here.

I'll have to check to see where Highway 14 is. This really is a nice moody shot of the Columbia. Our son is getting married just above the Columbia in Eastern Washington this summer...

This looks so familiar to me. Were you by any chance in Arlington? Anyway it's quite a lovely view and I'm always grateful for fences like that because I wouldn't want to go over the edge.

Very nice. I have a photo with a tree much like that over the Mississippi River. I need to post it soon. Thanks for reminding me of it!

Nice river scene. Where is this at? It looks like a place near Cape Horn.

Very lovely! Almost a Hound of the Baskervilles look to it. Very dreamy.

I've noticed an increase in such fences in England too as everyone becomes more Health & Safety concious. At least you didn't fall in!
