I was looking for monarchs today on my walk up here in Northern Michigan. None to be found, and not as much milkweed as usual either. I think we see the most monarchs when we visit over Fourth of July, and still see plenty if we visit in the beginning of August. This is pretty late in the summer for us to be visiting. I think the monarchs are probably long gone for the season. Too bad. Hoping for a good beach photo for tomorrow...

No cicadas. Just crickets tonight :) earlier in the summer the milkweed has a big round pink flower cluster, and in the fall big seed pods open up. In August it's probably the least identifiable.
